NAMES OF GOD: Session #1
WHY DOES GOD HAVE SO MANY NAMES?
The Bible records over 100 different Names and Titles of the Lord Jesus Christ. Each Name of the Lord is a DESCRIPTION of His Character. Each Name is also a DECLARATION of His commitment to His people. God DOES everything that His Name declares!
The Bible is like an incredible TREASURE CHEST filled with the wonderful Names of the Lord! And those Names are the very basis of our faith and trust in the Lord:
“OUR HELP is in the Name of the Lord.” Psalm 124:8
“The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
“And They who know Thy Name will put their trust in Thee; for Thou, Lord, has not forsaken those who seek Thee.” Psalm 9:10
If you want to really know the Lord and see Him in all His glory, turn to the BIBLE and ask Him to reveal Himself through the pages of Scripture:
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
DOCTRINE tells us what is right.
REPROOF tells us what is not right.
CORRECTION tells us how to get right.
INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUS tells us how to stay right!

The Lord is INFINITE in all His ways. This means that He is without limit in everything that He is:
God is infinite in His knowledge . . . He is ALL KNOWING or omniscient.
God is infinite in His power . . . there is nothing that He cannot do. He is omnipotent!
The Lord is infinite in His presence. He is everywhere or omnipresent.
The Lord is also infinite in holiness and justice. As a holy and just God, He cannot simply ignore sin and look the other way. Sin must be judge by a Holy God!
But the Lord is also infinite in His mercy and grace. So how could a holy God forgive sin when His holiness demands that He judge sin? To some, it would appear that the infinite mercy and justice of God are a conflict. How can God demand justice and at the same time be merciful to sinners like you and me?
The Lord is infinite in His love . . . there is no end or limit to His eternal love. This great love was demonstrated when Jesus came to earth to die in our place upon the cross. Jesus lovingly and willingly took upon Himself the wrath and justice of God when He died for us so that God could declare that the price of sin has been paid in full . . . and He can now extend His merciful forgiveness to us!
"But God showed His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
A NAME THAT NO ONE KNOWS!
When the Lord Jesus Christ returns to earth in power and great glory He will lead the armies of Heaven and defeat the hateful armies of His enemies. Revelation 19:11-12 declares:
"And I saw Heaven opened and, behold, a white horse; and He that sat upon Him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge, and make war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a Name written, that no man knew, but He Himself."
A Name that no man knows . . . this would tell us that there are things about the very person and character of God that He has not revealed. I wonder if He will ever reveal that Name . . . or perhaps many Names that we do not yet know? For those of us who have trusted Him as Savior, we may soon find out!
